Get Your Move on Tip – Super Stability


TCOYD’s resident fitness expert Michelle Day has a tip to keep your diabetes in check and your body fit.

Improve your stability anywhere, anytime. Standing in line at the grocery store or sitting at your desk, engage your core muscles by pulling your abdomen (aka stomach) up and in towards your spine. Hold for a count of 8 and release. Repeat this exercise 8 times. Don’t forget to breath!

Get Your Move On Tip – Balancing Your Blood Sugar

Check your blood sugar level before and after you exercise. Remember that low blood sugar can be a problem so always carry a high-sugar snack when exercising.

Get Your Move on Tip – Breathing at Bedtime


TCOYD’s resident fitness expert Michelle Day has a tip to keep your diabetes in check and your body fit.

Encourage sleep with these simplistic breathing techniques. Lay in your bed, on your back, with your arms down by your sides and your palms facing up. Close your eyes then inhale for 4 seconds. Hold your breath for 4 seconds and exhale for 4 seconds. Repeat this pattern 8 times and you will be on your way to a restful nights sleep.

Get Your Move On Tip – Walk This Way


TCOYD’s resident fitness expert Michelle Day has a tip to keep your diabetes in check and your body fit.

Set a manageable goal of walking a minimum of 20 minutes a day. Place a pair of good walking shoes and comfortable socks by your front door. Slip them on 20 minutes before you normally leave the house and go for a walk around your neighborhood. If you missed your morning walk then put your walking shoes on as soon as you return home and head right back out that door for a glorious walk. Do this 5 times a week for one month and I guarantee by the second month you will be thanking yourself for turning this goal into a healthy habit.

Get Your Move On Tip – Daily Doses of Exercise

How can you integrate more exercise into your daily life? Here are a few tips:

  • Always use the stairs
  • Carry items, such as books and groceries, to build strength
  • Walk or jog to and from your local shops, parks and schools
  • Park your car as far away from the entrance as possible
  • Get off the bus a few stops early
  • Behind the Scenes Photos
